Tapanappa B&V Vineyard 2021 Syrah

2021 Tapanappa B&V Syrah has a medium density purple-crimson colour, the colour of a fresh young wine.

The aroma is of ripe satsuma plums and blackberry with the slightly tarry, anise of Syrah grown in a distinguished site. The bouquet is of faint cedar and fresh leather.

The flavour is immediately fruit sweet and finishes with a rounded tannin and the vibrancy of the cool 2021 vintage.

Vintage Notes

2021 was the second successive cool vintage in the Adelaide Hills after a decade and a half dominated by hot vintages from 2005 to 2019.

The heat summation for the 2021 vintage at Mount Barker was 1511ºC days versus the average of 1585ºC days and the small crop of Syrah was hand harvested on the 7th of April, a late harvest compared to the average.

Winemaking Notes

The hand harvested 2021 B&V Syrah was delivered to the Tapanappa Winery in the Piccadilly Valley where it was destemmed, crushed lightly, chilled to 5ºC and pumped to 0.85 tonne fermenters. The hand plunged fermentation lasted three weeks before the tubs were tipped into the airbag press and the finished wine was gently pressed to older barriques.

After malolactic fermentation in barrique, the wine was aged on lees until it was clear racked in January of 2022 and bottled in February 2022.

Don't miss out on the next vintage of Tapanappa Chardonnays again!
