Planted in 1979 by Brian Croser, the Tiers Vineyard is the birthplace of Adelaide Hills Chardonnay.

 

The cool and wet climate of the Piccadilly Valley suits Chardonnay perfectly, and the Tiers is in every way a Distinguished site, with its gentle slope to the north and east and being situated in a sheltered valley surrounded by forest, thus forming a true “clos” environment.

 

Planted with a unique Chardonnay clone – possibly related to some of the first introductions of Chardonnay to New South Wales in the early to mid 1800’s – this vineyard is now over 40-years-old, and with this great age, as expected, the vines are slowly devigorating and the grape quality ever increasing.

 

Next door to the Tiers, is our Tiers 1.5M Vineyard, which was planted 20 over years ago, giving us a Chardonnay that stands alongside its older sibling as an equal, but with the subtle differences induced by its close spaced, French clone, earlier ripening habit.
