Saw that there was a note for this 2006 Tapanappa Cabernet Shiraz in last year’s Big Red Wine Book (well in advance of its release) and – noting the 91 point score – wondered whether we?d been a bit harsh. Or whether it had just been bottled at the time. Or whether ? well, thought it was worth revisiting. Opened a bottle earlier today to take a second look.
The structure and impact of the preceding two releases seem to be missing here ? though this still has a bit to recommend it. Gravel, blackcurrant, dried herbs and toasty, tarry flavours characterise it. Plus eucalypt. It has reasonable length and its oak has settled into the wine well. It just lacks a bit of drama, a bit of get up and go, a bit of length.
