Wine of the Week: Tapanappa Whalebone Cabernet Shiraz 2006 – 5 Stars

TAPANAPPA is an Australian-French consortium founded by Brian Croser (ex-Petaluma), Bordeaux-born Jean-Michel Cazes and Champagne Bolinger. The international nature of the partnership is echoed in this tasty wine. It takes the very Australian blend of cabernet sauvignon and shiraz (with a dab of cabernet franc), grown at Wrattonbully in South Australia, to make a red blend with a suave French accent. Cedary oak, blackcurrant, raspberry and clove-like notes mark the nose, while the medium-bodied palate has savoury flavours, an ultra-fine texture and perfect balance. Charming.
