Tonight we celebrated my birthday, and also the fact that eldest son's school cricket team won the Middlesex county title at Lords.....

Tappanappa Whalebone Vineyard 2004 Wrattonbully, Australia is the second release of Brian Croser's new red wine, from a vineyard he first made wine from in the 1980s. It's superbly balanced, with rich, sweet fruit nicely countered by good structure. A wine that I feel will age well, and which has a real sense of class to it. I gave it 94/100.

2007 Edition

Arguably the most interesting of all new wineries to be announced in Australia over the past few years. Its partners are Brian Croser of Petaluma, Jean-Michel Cazes of Chateau Lynch-Bages in Pauillac and Societe Jaques Bollinger, the parent company of Champagne Bollinger. The core of the business is the Koppamurra vineyard acquired from Koppamurra Wines prior to the 2003 vintage.

Whalebone Vineyard Cabernet Shiraz 2003 - 95 points. Included in the top 5 Cabernet Shiraz blends of the year.

"Abounds with soft and warm black fruits followed by fine, ripe and gently persistent tannins from the mid-palate through to the finish. Quality French oak rounds the wine off."
