2010 Piccadilly Valley Chardonnay – of substance and power

Author: Campbell Mattinson

Review Date: Apr 2013

This is the younger sibling of the Tiers Vineyard release. It’s grown on the same chardonnay vineyard, though the vines this was grown on were planted in 2001. i.e. much younger vines. This 2010 release has been in the market for at least 12 months, if not 24, but it’s the first time I’ve tasted it. It’s at a good stage of its life now.

Spicy, sawdusty, almost coconutty oak has largely sunk down into the fruit – though it’s still evident, still leaves its sexy trail. I reckon I could go this wine. White peach, nectarine, grapefruit. A wine of substance and power. Not over-wrought. Juicy finish. Essence of chardonnay, in the fuller style. It will improve too.
